Ahar Cenotaphs

The Ahar Cenotaphs are one of Udaipur’s most important royal memorial sites and are closely connected with the history of the rulers of Mewar. The complex contains a large collection of beautifully carved cenotaphs, or chhatris, built in memory of former Maharanas and members of the royal family.

Constructed mainly from marble and stone, the memorials feature elegant domes, carved pillars and traditional Rajput architectural details. The peaceful setting and impressive concentration of royal cenotaphs make Ahar an excellent place for visitors interested in Mewar’s history, architecture and heritage.

Local Tip

Visit in the morning or late afternoon when the light is softer and the weather is more comfortable. The repeating domes and carved pillars also make this one of the most photogenic heritage sites around Udaipur.
